Wholand Instrument Company
Scott AmesOxford, Connecticut
Scott is a life long Connecticut resident. Living on the banks of Lake Housatonic in a rag tag community known as "Wholand".
By day, Scott is an Engineer. It’s his engineering background that turned him on to cigar box guitars. The analog, low fidelity, low tech nature of cigar box guitars is an escape from the digital, high tech, world of his day job.
Scott particularly likes to work off themes and create custom one-of-a-kind art for his guitars. All his necks and fret boards are made from scratch and use many exotic woods. He makes scratch-built boxes as well as traditional recycled cigar boxes. He’s not limited to just guitars. He’s created bass guitars, ukuleles, and even wash boards.
