Perfect

I built my first CBU (baritone) last week, and I was aware of the absolute criticality of aligning the bridge with the fretboard, so I bought and used the template (along with the baritone uke kit). The result was perfect. My first attempt was so successful that I plan on building CBUs for all my grandkids, and any homeschooled kid or adult who wants one, and I'll use this template to build all of them.

One caveat: The material at the corners of the bridge opening is fragile; one corner of mine has broken, and another corner is cracked. I cut and glued pieces from a paint stir stick to reinforce each side of the bridge opening, and now it's solid.

Don't attempt a build without this template!

A Must for the Shop

I have this template along with the templates for the Sopranissimo, Soprano, Concert, and Tenor kits. These templates are made from a sturdy acrylic that will last. The acrylic is clear (though there is a backing tape that you’ll want to peel off. They are also clearly engraved with what they are, to include type of ukulele, scale length, and product number. And of course, they have that very sweet MGB logo. Because these templates are clear, you can easily see your center line and any other notations you’ve made on the box so that you can precisely line things up. These templates allow for speedy bridge placement. You may need to adjust backwards or forward just a bit, depending on the length of the box you’re using. But these templates allow the builder to quickly dial in the measurements and mark the proper bridge placement. With these ukulele kits, I like to go ahead and place the bridge on the box and then use a small drill bit to drill out the mounting holes in the bridge and box. This allows me to quickly place the bridge after doing initial sanding or other prep before final assembly. The bonus with these baritone templates is that they also include a cutout for hard tail bridges and will thus work with the three and four string MGB Zippy Necks, which are the same scale and style of necks as the necks in the Baritone Ukulele kits.
