In some builds it is preferred to place the pickup under the lid of the box, this practice is often referred to as "ghosting". Many builders have had good success using the MGB flat pups for these applications.  MGB is proud to introduce our new Ghost Pups. These flat pups/harness assemblies are ideal for ghosting. The pickups include a high quality 3M adhesive pad for securing the pup to the lid of the box. They work best if the surface of the box is relatively smooth. Additional adhesive such as E6000 may be needed for rough surfaces. The harnesses includes volume and tone pots along with a jack. A ground wire for the the bridge and the hardware are also included.  500k pots are used on the double coil pickups and 250k pots are included on the single coil pickups. The Lucky 13 and Point Five O are stronger pickups and best suited where the distance to the string is greater than 1/4 inch.

This kit includes everything needed to build a Mandolin except for the body. The neck is Okume with a Walnut fretboard. Binding and face and side fret markers are included. The scale length is 13 3/4 inches. The neck also includes a truss rod. A compensated and adjustable Walnut bridge is included along with a chrome tailpiece. Tuners and a truss rod cover are included.  Four pairs of stings are provided including .012, .016, .026 and .032 sizes. Tuning is GDAE. Note: Keep in mind the tension created by 8 strings is substantial, all boxes will need additional reinforcement to handle the added stress. Make sure the top where the neck is connected is thick (close to 1/2" is ideal) and rigid. You will note that two hanger bolts are used to provide and solid connection between the neck and the box.

This bridge is a "top-loading" style, which means that the strings are fed through the back plate of the bridge, then up and over the saddles. No drilling through the instrument/box is required! The spacing between strings is 12mm (0.472", just under 1/2") with total distance from string 1 to string 3 being 24mm or 0.945" - just under 1 inch. Each one is mounted securely by four screws, and a small allen wrench is also included for adjusting the small set screws that control string action height. Basically, these get used like any bottom-loading electric guitar bridge (like those on telecasters and such). You screw it to the top of the instrument, and the strings come up through holes in the instrument body (usually with a ferrule of some sort on the back to hold the string ball), and then up and over the individual string saddles. The saddles can be adjusted by means of a screw at the back of the bridge to get the intonation just right, and small set screws at the front of each saddle let you set the string action height. It's small in scale and works out perfect for a lot of cigar box guitars. This humbucker has split coil wiring and is a little bit different than some of the wirings you'll see on some of our other pickups. Make sure to watch our video on that above. We've got four colors including chrome, gold, black, and antique brass.  The Hot Tuna is a new pickup that we've designed and we are really proud of we've done, we hope you guys like it and help make The Hot Tunas a household name.   Black wire is hot, green/braid is ground and red/white are where the coils connect. Note: Also available with our push pull pot harness. This allows you to easily move from a single coil pickup to a humbucker by simply pushing or pulling the tone knob. Soldered sealed and tested.
