These made in the US strings are available in several popular assortments. MGB strings are available in two styles, Plain Steel and Nickel Wound. Plain Steel strings are thinner and used in the lower positions on a instrument and create higher pitches. Nickel Wound strings are much thicker and heavier and used on the higher positions on an instrument and create lower pitches. Using a combination of different styles and diameters tuned to different pitches is the goal. The scale length of the neck is also critical a factor in selecting the correct strings. Scales lengths from 24-25.5 inches are the standard for guitars. We generally make recommendations for scale lengths in that range. If the scale length is longer or shorter, other strings may work better. Picking the right strings are a personal choice. At MGB we tend to prefer lighter strings like .013, .017 and .026 tuned to GDG. We offer an assortment of sizes in both styles. We also offer different quantities, you can buy one, three or a dozen strings. We believe our offering provides lots of options for builders. You can pick your favorite strings or do some experimentation with different strings.   MGB's CBG cheat sheet is a valuable tool for better understanding the different pitches we are referring to and can be found HERE. This box was designed and built using the same principles used in acoustic instrument construction. The box is built using purfling and braces to create an incredibly strong and rigid structure. Additional reinforcements were added to key locations to allow when securing bridges. Cover plates are available to cover the sound hole when it is on the back side.  Measuring  9 3/4 inches by 7 inches and 2 1/2 thick the box is made from thin ply with a top veneer of Sapele. Many builders are not musicians and have limited musical skills. It is often to difficult to know exactly how to tune strings on various instruments. MGB is not a musician and created his own cheat sheet to help him with set ups. While many musicians can get pretty close with tuning a string by ear, others (like MGB) have no idea where they are on the scale. MGB quickly realized it was helpful to use the corelating frequency for tuning. The A note has  frequency of 440HZ. The Pano tuner app is very helpful, it provides the note and the frequency. The 88 keys on the piano are listed on the left, moving to the right are popular note tuning for a number of instruments.  While there are many tuning possibilities for cbgs listed are a few popular choices.

New from MGB, a quick and easy way to precisely position the bridge on your next build. This template will all allow you to mark the proper locations for the mounting holes on your bridge onto the box. It works with standard 3,4 and 6 string bridges. It will also work with MGB 3 string XL bridges.  First mark your box with a centerline then a  line for the scale length. Position the template on over these lines. Drill the appropriate holes along with the ground wire hole.

Build your own 50s retro cbg using the new Zoomy box from MGB. Easy to assemble and easy to add the electronics of your choice. Can be used for 3,4 or 6 string guitars. Made primarily for use with bolt on necks and works perfectly with MGB Easy Necks, Super Necks and the Super Sixer Neck. Since the box is not symmetrical around the center line, it is recommended that you use a neck template to help locate the bridge. Can also be used for a U Bass.  The tops come in five cool and colorful laminates. The Zoomy RTG comes in twos styles; blank and Hot Tuna ready. The top plate is secured to the body ring. This handy template allows the builder to accurately mark the locations for potentiometers. Align the template with the lower left corner of the box. Then mark the holes through the template with an awl. Drill the holes using a 5/16s drill. Brad point drill bits work well. Note we also mark our bits with colored tape to help find them quickly.

It is always best to keep the pickups as close as possible to the face of the pickup. Occasionally the the geometry of the box, neck and bridge creates a larger distance. If possible it would be helpful to lift the pickup and cover. These spacers are made for each of the MGB flat pups. The are 1/8 of an inch thick. You can use one or more. The screws that come with the covers are long enough to handle several spacers.

New from MGB, the Ready Box is a US made box that is perfect for many box style builds. The box is well built and solid suitable for any build. The box is 7 3/4 by 11 3/4 inches which is in our estimate the perfect size. This box works perfectly for bolt on necks. The frame is made of 3/4" popular and the top and the back cover are made or 1/4 inch Burch ply. The box can be painted, stained or covered.    

This template allows the builder to accurately locate any of the MGB Flat Pups and mark the necessary holes for mounting the cover. it easy to use, simply: I identify and mark the centerline of the box. Select the appropriate pickup on the template. Mark the mounting holes and the wire hole for the pickup. Drill a one inch hole when using a RSG pickup where the pickup is already soldered to a harness.  Install the pickup/cover. The template provides the name and part number of all MGB Flat Pups and the cover options.
