Nickel Wound strings are much thicker and heavier and used on the higher positions on an instrument and create lower pitches. Using a combination of different styles and diameters tuned to different pitches is the goal. The scale length of the neck is also critical a factor in selecting the correct strings. Scales lengths from 24-25.5 inches are the standard for guitars. We generally make recommendations for scale lengths in that range. If the scale length is longer or shorter, other strings may work better. Picking the right strings are a personal choice. At MGB we tend to prefer lighter strings like .013, .017 and .026 tuned to GDG. We offer an assortment of sizes in both styles. Easy to assemble kit includes everything needed to build a 3 or 4 string license plate guitar, using your favorite 6x12 inch license plate. Kit includes: Reinforced Sapele body specifically made for license plate builds. The body is reinforced and machined with necessary mounting holes for adding components. Kit includes Super Neck. See here. Lucky 13 pickup with harness ready to install. Pickup has double sided tape and can be mounted on the back of the license plate near the neck. Hardware includes tuners, strings, stainless steel tailpiece, knobs, strap pins and screws. An oak bridge that may need to modified to fit around the letters to obtain the preferred action height.  Assembly is easy: Mount harness/jack assembly to box. Feed black ground wire through small hole where tail piece mounts.  Affix pickup to back side of plate. Install tuners on headstock, use a small amount of super glue to secure the Rosewood string spacer on at the end of the fretboard just beyond the zero fret. Mount neck on the body using reinforcement plate and hardware. Mount plate to box using screws and finish washers. Install the tailpiece. Install strings and only tighten lightly.

MGB Guitars is proud to introduce their Ace of Spades Easy Box enclosure.  This box was designed and built using the same principles used in acoustic instrument construction. The box is built using purfling and braces to create an incredibly strong and rigid structure. Additional reinforcements were added to key locations to allow when securing bridges. Cover plate is included.  Measuring  9 3/4 inches by 7 inches and 2 1/2 thick the box is made from thin ply with a top veneer of Sapele. IT comes in two versions one is unfinished and the other has several coats of spray finish.  Roughly 7 inches by 9.75 inches Approximately 2 1/2 inches deep Acoustic side includes 2 3/8 inch sound hole The box head is a full 5/8 thick Multiply construction with Sapele veneer .
