Lucky 13 Flat Pup Lucky 13 Flat Pup
Lucky 13 Flat Pup $15.00
In some builds it is preferred to place the pickup under the lid of the box, this practice is often referred to as "ghosting". Many builders have had good success using the MGB Mini Box Buckers for these applications.  MGB is proud to introduce our new Lucky 13 flat pup designed for ghosting. By adding more wire and strengthening the magnetic field we have a solid solution. These new pickups measure 13k ohms plus. We have found in testing that the pickups work well when the distance from the pickup to the strings is .5".  Make sure the magnets face the strings. Measuring 2.56" by 1.6" and .3" thick, these pickups can be used on 3,4 and 6 string builds. Works with our 6 string Boxbucker covers. View all available covers here.

MGB CBG Cheat Sheet MGB CBG Cheat Sheet
MGB CBG Cheat Sheet $1.00
Many builders are not musicians and have limited musical skills. It is often to difficult to know exactly how to tune strings on various instruments. MGB is not a musician and created his own cheat sheet to help him with set ups. While many musicians can get pretty close with tuning a string by ear, others (like MGB) have no idea where they are on the scale. MGB quickly realized it was helpful to use the corelating frequency for tuning. The A note has  frequency of 440HZ. The Pano tuner app is very helpful, it provides the note and the frequency. The 88 keys on the piano are listed on the left, moving to the right are popular note tuning for a number of instruments.  While there are many tuning possibilities for cbgs listed are a few popular choices.
MGB Pitch Bender MGB Pitch Bender
MGB Pitch Bender from $25.00
Available in 3 and 4 string models, these new MGB Pitch Benders can add a new dimension to your CBGs. Includes all of the chrome finished components and hardware needed. Also includes a template to provide accurate location and sizing of hole for the bridge and locations for mounting screws. Critical steps for installation: Use the template (included) for accurate lay-out of holes. Make sure to line up the box center line and scale length line.  Secure anchor block (2 1/2 x 4  inches) to inside of lid. It should meet with edge of hole. The bridge screws will need to go through the lid and into the block. Do not over tighten screws that secure the bridge. The bridge must lay flat against the box, see pic. The bridge will need to pivot to shorten the strings and bend the pitch. Anchor the springs to provide tension, you can use the spring bracket or install screws in the anchor block. Our experience shows that stretching the strings about 1/2 inch from the normal state provides the right tension. This tension will will keep the bridge flat and allow tuning. Bending the bar will further stretch the springs and allow the bridge to pivot. The 3 string uses two springs and the 4 string uses three springs. The strings are bottom loading so access through the back of the box is needed.

Nickel Wrapped Strings .018 to .050 Nickel Wrapped Strings .018 to .050
Nickel Wrapped Strings .018 to .050 from $1.75
All strings are packed in a corrosion resistant envelope and then packed in a reclosable 4 mil bag. MGB strings are available in two styles, Plain Steel and Nickel Wound. Plain Steel strings are thinner and used in the lower positions on a instrument and create higher pitches. Nickel Wound strings are much thicker and heavier and used on the higher positions on an instrument and create lower pitches. Using a combination of different styles and diameters tuned to different pitches is the goal. The scale length of the neck is also critical a factor in selecting the correct strings. Scales lengths from 24-25.5 inches are the standard for guitars. We generally make recommendations for scale lengths in that range. If the scale length is longer or shorter, other strings may work better. Picking the right strings are a personal choice. At MGB we tend to prefer lighter strings like .013, .017 and .026 tuned to GDG. We offer an assortment of sizes in both styles. We also offer different quantities, you can buy one, three or a dozen strings. We believe our offering provides lots of options for builders. You can pick your favorite strings or do some experimentation with different strings.   MGB's CBG cheat sheet is a valuable tool for better understanding the different pitches we are referring to and can be found HERE. Having a digital caliper in your toolbox is helpful when you need to identify a string. For Plain Steel Strings go HERE Check out our 3 for $3 string packs HERE.
